Today, commercial fashion is dominated by chain stores with numerous identical shops in major towns and cities. The offer is available from every high street and is affordable to the masses. These shops often take reference from premium fashion brands in terms of both clothing collections and interiors.

Students were asked to design a retail space for the display, selling and storage of a luxury brand of mobile phone, incorporating a strong brand identity that can be easily recognised and accepted throughout the world. This resulting design considers the variety of product ranges and the number of phones to be displayed. The site used for the project is based on a typical retail unit in a shopping mall of approximately 40 square metres and a ceiling height of three metres with adequate storage for 70 phones.

The relationship between supermarkets and markets is evident in the reason for their existence and the translation of product display, but in many ways, they are opposites. Supermarkets do not recreate the sense of community in cities and social engagement that a market does and could not be described as the hub of a city. What the supermarket does do, however, is enable the maintenance of the current pace of living with its convenience, in an environment that is contemporary and fulfilling of aspirations.
