Subordinative periphrases Subordinative periphrases formed by two finite verbal forms linked by a subordinative complementizer are documented in some Romance-speaking areas. Essere (qui/li) che 'be here/there that' + finite form of the verb is used in Northern Italian regions (see Canepari 1984: 100 for Veneto regional Italian), while essere in cammino che 'be on the way that' + finite form is reported as used in the Northwest of Piedmont (Telmon 1989: 480). Essere che 'be that' + finite form is also attested in Sicilian (see Leone 1982: 146-147).
