For example, buildings can be closed and sold off and natural wastage can enable a museum to reduce its staff. For the expanding museum, a buildings programme can be undertaken and new staff taken on. The short run cost structure of museums such as Beamish which have pronounced seasonal fluctuations, means inter alia that any boostings of off-peak visitor demand will hardly affect costs, but will increase revenue.
