These have been around for a long time, but in recent years, tension wires have become sleeker and more commonly used. They are constructed of a fine-coiled metal wire, which is often coated. The wire may be threaded through the curtain casing or eyelets, or the curtain may be hung in place through the use of clips or other curtain-hanging options.
Otherwise, you may choose to attach the curtain to the rod with rings or clips. In short, there are a variety of different heading styles you may want to consider.
